Memory Table of my Childhood

I am so happy to be able to participate this week in Tablescape Thursday , hosted by Susan @ Between Naps On The Porch .. Thank you Susan for hosting this every week and giving us a place to show off our pretties..

I need to tell ya'll a little story about the table I did my dish display on.. I used to come to NC to spend my summers, with my Grandparents. They had a sleeping porch and thats what I used as a bedroom. It was small and cozy with just a bed, a side table and chair. I loved staying in that little room and looking out at the stars at night and alot of my days were spent at that table with coloring books, crayons and paper dolls .. Time went by and my grandparents passed away and through the years all their belongings were scattered hither and yon.  The other day I was looking on craigslist and the ad said ""antique side table, legs need repair, normal wear and tear of being 63 years old"". I thought , well,at least the owner was honest so I clicked on the ad and the photo popped up... it was MY TABLE, if not the one I sat at all those hours, it was its Twin. I called and the next morning I purchased it..I tighened up the legs, rubbed it hard with furniture polish , thought about the nicks and scratches and said NO, I'm not sanding and staining or painting it.. I'm leaving it just as it is.. She's been around alot of years and has been well used and well loved.
Her memories show on her surface, just as mine do. So we will go along together , with all our little blemishes showing , smiling all the way... Thanks for letting me share with you.
I need to squeeze this notice in here:-) Theres a Giveaway over at - click on her blog name below..

I just got a new set of dishes, so I used those in my display.. They are Chris Madden from JC Penneys..
Very nice dishes but I like a bargain and these were a little pricey.
One of my DH's favorite desserts is peach cobbler, so he's a happy camper today.  Warm cobbler and hot tea and he asks for nothing more.
He did want to know why those bunnies were so close to his cobbler , so I just told him they were WatchBunnies, there to protect his bowl from anyone else stealing it ..:-)
heres the recipe I use..
Peach Cobbler
2 1/2 pounds ripe, juicy peaches (about 4 cups sliced)
3/4 cup of sugar
4 drops almond extract
pinch of cinnamon (optional)
2 tablespoons butter
biscuit top (below)
Preheat oven to 425°F.
Peel peaches by dipping into boiling water for about a minute then slip off skins. Slice into wedges, discarding pits. Place in a shallow 6 cup baking dish or casserole, sprinkle with sugar and almond extract. Dot with butter and cover with rolled out biscuit dough (see below) for top.
Topping~
1 cup flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 cup butter or shortening
1/2 cup milk minus 1 tablespoon
Whisk together flour, salt and baking powder. Cut in shortening using a pastry blender or two knives, or your fingertips. Stir in milk, all at once, stirring with a fork until dough clings together. Pat or roll out dough to 1/4" thickness and place over peaches. Trim edges, crimp or flute to seal. Cut a hole in the top center for steam to vent.
Bake in hot 425° oven for 15 minutes, then reduce to 325°F. Bake for an additional 10 to 15 minutes, or until peaches are cooked and top is golden.
She looks so pretty at night sitting in the corner of my family room.. This is where I spend alot of my time, since I work from home and I am so happy to have her here with me.
Thanks for visiting me and my table. We loved having you with us.. Come by anytime..

Red Rooster Plates

While I do love my black , white and apple green table scapes, sometimes I just feel the need to dine in Color and today I choose multiple color but with strong dashes of red. Its all the fault of the sweet rooster salad plates I found at Kmart.. Yes I said Kmart. somewhere I rarely look for things but after finding these I'll be checking there more often. set of 4 ~ 7.99, which I felt was a fair price. Micro and dishwasher safe , nice and sturdy with a good weight.. I wasnt expecting them to be of such nice quality but I am thrilled with them.

I found this scrap of fabric in my stash to use as a tablecloth. I tried using my black and white toile but it just wasnt working for me. Now next time Tommy, my darlin dh, asks me if I REALLY need all the fabric in my containers I can say with ferver, YES I DO, and then show him why..
I'm developing a real love for all  things Rooster.  I dont follow fads so when a few people told me roosters were on their way OUT , my answer was Good, take them OUT of your home and send them over to Mine:-)
Just a few views of the table and oh my goodness I almost for my new basket find from goodwill, 2.00 and now cherished by me..
Thank you so much for visiting my newest tablescape and Me..You are always welcome and very much appreciated.  Stop by anytime. Theres always hot coffee, sweet tea and cold soda for you and we'll scrounge up some snacks too...

SnickerCake~Sweets for the Sweet~!

I said last week when I posted my poppy seed cake that I'd try to get back with my husband's Snicker cake, this week..
He does most of the baking but even I can do this one, as its easy as pie- um I mean Cake:-)  I didnt actually have time to bake so I just made a cute tag for this recipe..
1...Choose any Chocolate cake mix- or your favorite from scratch chocolate cake. This can be done as  cupcakes but a sheet cake is really the best option-9x13.. Mix and bake according to directions.
2... While the cake is still warm~using a skewer:: we use a chop stick saved from when we had japanese food:: poke holes approx. every inch in the cake. Wiggle the skewer around gently, you want holes about the size of a no. 2 pencil.
3... Using a double boiler~melt 3 Snicker Bars and 1 tub of premade icing.. DO NOT BOIL, just melt, till pourable. Some of my friends who tried this said you could do this melting in the microwave, so if you;re familiar with doing such things that way, go ahead. He always uses the double boiler method.
4... Pour this on top of your cake very slowly or keeping it mixed, spoon over the cake. Try to make sure the chunkier parts of your icing are evenly distributed, so everyone gets some of the nuts and caramel from the snicker bars.. Allow to cool, cover and refridgerate for about an hour.
Thats it Folks~! Cant you just taste all that chocolate in different textures, Smooth , crunchy, caramely, lol
I hope you enjoy it as much as we do..
Thanks for stopping by...We always enjoy your company and your comments.
