I think its odd how folks shopping habits change.. Have Yours changed?? I'd love to hear about it if they have..
If you ever visit and see me out shopping- hollar:), yep thats right- just stick your cute little head out the window and yell.. We still allow that here in tiny towns in the south.. It isnt Uncouth its Friendly... I'll squeal, rush too your car with no worry about anyone hitting me or blowing the horn or cursing.. In fact a few other cars may stop and wave at ya too.. Just in case your my 5th cousin , twice removed on my fathers side..
We take our relatives seriously here in the south and always give them a warm welcome..
I find myself going , maybe twice a month to a tiny town, shopping in small obscure shops.. Its convenient ~ its quiet, no long lines and always unique items.
One of my favorite places is downtown Salisbury NC.. I also try to hit the consignment shops, goodwills and any craft stores I find on the side streets off main.
This tells you more about whats available than I ever could..
I meet the nicest people in these places.. Most are friendly and chatty and I never wait for someone to come around that knows everything I need to know about the items I'm interested in..
I know its easy to run in the big famous stores and grab what ya need and rush home but how are we gonna have time to chat if you do that? We wont be able to walk around the corner and grab some fresh ground , hot coffee and a donut either....
Our Mom n Pop stores need us to keep them open and I need ya'll to keep me company...
Happy Saturday..
oh baby, it just started to snow.. I gotta run outside and catch some flakes on my tongue..
see ya soon..
Sonny
You live in a great area too Sonny! I love the South! Have a great weekend. Debbie
ReplyDeleteYou are my kind of girl!
ReplyDeleteI shop with a purpose. I have to have something I need to go out EXCEPT when I am traveling, then I want to hit all the stores!
I love snowflakes on my tongue, too!
I am so there with you. I hardly ever go to a mall.
ReplyDeleteNot even at Christmas. I will go to a book store or scrapbooking store and maybe Pottery
Barn......just have no desire to shop at other retail stores.
We have some cute little stores in our village what sounds like where you go to shop. I wish we had more antique stores but they seem to not be making it in this economy.
Great post.
Me too! I wish I could go along with you. We used to love near Salt lake City and I was always off shopping and spending lots of money. Now we live out in the country, there is a Walmart one hour from us, but the nearest mall is about 2-3 hours away. I don't miss it at all...I find such peach and joy in nature and my days are filled and pass so fast...my hubbie is happy too..I wonder shy?! LOL
ReplyDeleteOh I am definitely a anytime anywhere kinda shopper! I love any and all types. But I couldn't agree with you more about the need for more shoppers to shop the mom and pops businesses. If more people did where I live I probably still have my old job. I would just like to say too that those small stores can't match the prices of the larger retail because they don't pay the same as the big retail stores do for merchandise. So next time you think it's too expensive please keep in mind the owners aren't trying to raise the price to get more from you they are only trying to make a normal profit. I can tell you already know that and I'd love to shop small retail with you anyday! Yes, small owners and townsfolk really are much more personal. You have a great area to shop in too. I've never been up there, but I've heard alot of good things about Salisbury! Have a great day!
ReplyDeleteHI Sonny,
ReplyDeleteThose shops sure sound nice. I like quaint lil places like that too. I mostly food shop at Sam's,target, Walmart, Publix and dollar store these days due to our forced staycation, but love to window shop at Ross, the maxx, HomeGoods and Marshalls and Joann's or Michael's, fun stuff!!
Hope your New Year is going well my friend,
Blessings for a nice weekend, we are about
to go out, we have cabin fever!! lol
Nellie
I rarely shop at the mall. I only go there if the only thing I can find is there (or when we go to the movies) I do shop at discount stores when I HAVE to, and spend way too much time in Hobby Lobby since it opened. BUT, the majority of shopping I do is online now and I LOVE it!
ReplyDeleteI'm the same way. I love to go to the small shops. I get to know the folks at the ones I frequent.
ReplyDeleteI hate malls! I'd much rather go to thrift stores, habitat restores, consignment stores, and good will. I do not like the crowds and traffic.
We're expecting snow in NE Ga tomorrow night. Maybe we won't have to go in to work Monday. Keeping my fingers crossed! :)
Have a great week.
Sonny I hear you on the shopping changes. Amazon.com, Sams Club, Target and Kirklands are my go to stores these days. I pretty much never stop by the mall at all.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year! ~Melissa :)
Sonny, you are so cute. I loved this post! I grew up in a small town (and I'm still in that town), so big department stores kind of overwhelm me. (and you're right - everything looks the same). I need fewer choices, or I can't make a decision. The town where you shop sounds like a perfect place to shop, and I loved your description of chatting with friends, and car horns not blowing because you run into the street to say hi. laurie
ReplyDeleteI hate going to the mall. Our mall has been EXPENDED and it is a ZOO!!!!!!!! Not enough parking now so I avoid it at all costs. I love little M and P shops too! I hope more people will frequent them too! XO, Pinky
ReplyDeleteWhat is shopping? I haven't really shopped in years. Going to Costco is a thrill!
ReplyDeleteI think it may be Sonny that things have just changed for everybody. I use to love to go to the mall even though I worked there for 10 years. When the boys were babies I was all about hitting the sales at the Gymboree and Baby Gap. Now not so much. I hate the crowds and hate the prices. I shop the sales on line and if and only if I really need something right away do we g to the mall. I prefer to shop small shops now as well. Little shops with unique things and as you say friendly people!
ReplyDeleteI hardly every go to the mall. I go to antique and thrift stores mostly -- and eBay and on line shopping more and more.
